How to choose the right marketing channels for your business

Not every channel is right for every business. A practical framework for deciding where to invest first, based on sales cycle, margin, and how customers actually search.

Start from sales cycle, not channel popularity

A channel that works well for a low-consideration retail purchase rarely works the same way for a six-month B2B sales cycle. Before picking channels, map how long a typical customer takes to decide, and how many people are usually involved in that decision.

Weigh margin against acquisition cost

Paid channels can acquire customers quickly, but only make sense within the margin the business can support. A channel decision made without a margin number attached is really just a guess.

Test with a defined budget and timeline

Pick one or two channels to test with a fixed budget and a fixed evaluation date, rather than spreading a small budget across five channels at once, where none of them get enough signal to judge properly.
